About K25 files

A .K25 file is a legacy Kodak DC25 Raw Image captured by the Kodak DC25, one of the earliest consumer digital cameras released in 1996. Unlike modern JPEG images, this file contains unprocessed sensor data stored in a proprietary structure similar to TIFF. Because the format is obsolete, modern operating systems like Windows 11 and macOS cannot preview these files natively, and standard photo viewers will fail to open them. Users typically encounter these files when recovering old digital photo archives and find themselves locked out of their memories due to the proprietary nature of the early Kodak firmware. To view or edit these photos, they must be converted into standard formats. For sharing and quick viewing, converting to JPG or PNG is recommended. For archival preservation without quality loss, converting to TIFF is the best practice. While professional tools like Adobe Photoshop have dropped support for this specific legacy format, specialized conversion tools can decode the raw data.
