The .jpg_large file is a standard JFIF (JPEG) raster image downloaded from the X (formerly Twitter) platform. When users save high-resolution media, the X content delivery network (CDN) appends _large to indicate the highest quality tier. Unfortunately, some web browsers mistakenly append this string to the file extension rather than the file name.
The main disadvantage of the .jpg_large format is immediate operating system incompatibility. Windows and macOS rely on file extensions to determine file types. Because .jpg_large is a non-standard extension, your OS will fail to recognize the file as an image. Attempting to open it will prompt a frustrating 'How do you want to open this file?' dialog.
