The .jgf file format is a highly specialized CAD/CAM file used primarily in sheet metal manufacturing. It functions as a geometry data container, a job program, or a G-code instruction set for CNC machines. These files dictate exactly how metal sheets are cut, punched, or bent on the factory floor.
This format is generated and managed by industrial CAM systems, predominantly JETCAM Expert, TRUMPF TruTops Boost, and software from Jorns AG.
A major disadvantage of the .jgf format is its proprietary, closed-ecosystem nature. It is heavily locked down. You cannot open it in standard web browsers, and viewing it requires an expensive, specialized manufacturing software license. For engineers sharing designs with external contractors or clients, sending a .jgf file creates a massive bottleneck because the recipient likely lacks the specific CAM engine required to parse the data.
To share these designs, users must convert .jgf files into standard 2D vector formats like DXF or DWG for geometry exchange, or to PDF for visual review and quoting. Note that converting away from .jgf strips out the machine-specific G-code, tooling, and toolpath logic. You will only retain the raw line geometry.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert outside of a factory environment.
