About JEX files

A .JEX file is an export archive created by Joplin, an open-source note-taking application. These files are used to backup and transfer entire workspaces, bundling text notes, metadata, and attached images into a single package. Under the hood, a .JEX file is simply a standard TAR archive containing MD (Markdown) files and JSON data.

The primary disadvantage of the .JEX format is its application lock-in. Because it uses a proprietary file extension, operating systems do not know how to handle it. You cannot double-click a .JEX file to view your notes without having Joplin installed. Furthermore, sharing a .JEX file with a colleague who uses Obsidian or Notion is useless unless they know how to manually dissect it.

To make the data usable elsewhere, you need to convert or extract the .JEX file into standard MD or TXT files for the text, or ZIP / TAR to access the raw media attachments. Standard online converters often fail to process .JEX files because they do not recognize the extension.

Convert.Guru analyzes your JEX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
