About ITU files
The .itu extension serves two distinct, industry-specific functions.
1. iSqFt Construction Project File (Most Common)
Generated by iSqFt (now part of ConstructConnect), this file is an XML-based container used in the commercial construction industry. It stores project metadata, bid packages, and links to blueprints (often TIF or PDF) for use in estimation software like On-Screen Takeoff.
Common Friction Points:
Proprietary Lock-in: You cannot double-click to view the actual blueprints; the file acts as a key to download/decrypt documents within the ConstructConnect ecosystem.
Version Conflicts: Older .itu files often rely on deprecated Java applets or legacy viewers that modern browsers block.
Shareability: Sending an .itu file to a subcontractor without the software renders the data inaccessible.
Best Conversion Targets:
To PDF: The most practical workaround is to open the project in the viewer and "Print to PDF" to share plans with stakeholders.
To Excel (.XLSX): Estimators often need to export the takeoff quantities to a spreadsheet for final pricing.
2. ITU SpaceCap Database
Used by the International Telecommunication Union, this format is a Microsoft Jet Database (MDB) used for satellite network filings and radio frequency coordination.
Practical Constraints:
Legacy Structure: These are essentially renamed MDB files created by the SpaceCap software.
Restricted Access: Designed for regulatory submission, not general data viewing.
Best Conversion Targets:
To MDB/ACCDB: Renaming the extension to MDB often allows Microsoft Access to open the file directly.
To CSV/Excel: Critical for extracting frequency data for analysis outside the specific ITU regulatory tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ITU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ITU file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use ConstructConnect or similar software from the "Construction Project Management" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to ITU, try ConstructConnect or another comparable tool in the "Construction Project Management" category.
The ITU Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ITU converter.
