About ITLP files

The .itlp file is an iTunes LP Album File originally created by Apple for use within the iTunes ecosystem. Introduced in 2009, this format was designed to replicate the experience of physical vinyl records or CD booklets. It combines digital music tracks with interactive HTML-based menus, scrolling lyrics, liner notes, artist photos, and high-quality video content. For more background on its history, see the Wikipedia article on iTunes LP.

The biggest disadvantage of the .itlp format is that it is completely obsolete. Apple officially stopped accepting new iTunes LP submissions in 2018 and phased out support in modern Apple Music applications. It is a closed, proprietary package tied strictly to older Apple software. Furthermore, these files take up excessive disk space because they bundle uncompressed web assets, large images, and heavy video files alongside the music. Because it relies on a built-in WebKit browser engine to render the menus, most standard media players cannot open or play an .itlp file directly.

Because an .itlp file is actually a structured ZIP archive, you do not 'convert' it in the traditional sense; instead, you extract it. The best target formats are the raw media files stored inside: MP3 or M4A for the audio tracks, MP4 or M4V for the videos, and JPG or PNG for the album artwork. Note that the interactive HTML menus and the overall 'album experience' will be permanently lost when extracting the raw media.

Standard online audio converters fail to process .itlp files because they do not recognize the proprietary web-archive structure and attempt to process the whole folder as a single audio file. If our analysis detects the supported underlying ZIP-based format, viewing or conversion of the embedded media files may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ITLP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
