About ISD files

The .ISD extension is used by several specialized software systems. Its most common use is as a network protocol analyzer capture file created by the Silicon Labs Network Analyzer (formerly Ember Desktop). It is also heavily used for spectrometer and spectral measurement data by Instrument Systems GmbH and statistical data by GraphPad InStat. In legacy development, it acts as a local InterBase database file for Borland Delphi.

These files are highly proprietary and fragmented. A network capture .ISD file is actually a ZIP archive containing structured event data, but if you do not have the exact Silicon Labs environment, extracting meaningful traces is frustrating. Spectrometer .ISD files (often encoded in UTF-8) contain raw optical data that requires specific, expensive laboratory software to visualize. You cannot just open an .ISD file in standard text editors or web browsers without seeing corrupted or unreadable data.

Converting these files often depends on their origin. For network captures, converting to PCAP, TXT, or XML is ideal for cross-platform analysis in tools like Wireshark. Spectrometer and statistical data are best exported to CSV or XLSX for processing in Excel or Python.

Because .ISD is an overlapping extension used for totally different data types, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the specific data structures. We can inspect the file, reveal its internal structure (like extracting the underlying ZIP or UTF-8 data), and show you text or embedded content. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ISD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LSD, RAR, FMF, LCP and PWB files.

The ISD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ISD converter.
