About IPW files

The .IPW file is primarily an HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screen project file developed for Pro-face GP-Pro EX panels. It stores layout data, scripts, and interface configurations for industrial touch panels, often acting as an Andon screen file. Secondly, .IPW is used for legacy iPIX Panoramic Images (structurally based on JFIF) and scientific data plots for UniPlot (using the Microsoft Compound file structure).

The major disadvantage of .IPW files is their highly proprietary nature. Pro-face project files cannot be natively opened by standard text editors or web browsers, locking your operational data into the GP-Pro EX ecosystem. Similarly, legacy iPIX images require outdated software or specialized developer libraries like LEADTOOLS to render the 360-degree panoramas correctly. If you do not have a paid license or legacy environment for these specific tools, your file is essentially an inaccessible black box.

Converting .IPW is highly dependent on its internal format. For UniPlot files, exporting to CSV or PDF is ideal for sharing scientific data. For iPIX files, extraction to standard JPG or PNG is recommended to restore modern browser compatibility, though you will lose the interactive 360-degree panning capabilities.

Because .IPW encompasses entirely different file structures - ranging from compiled industrial project configurations to raster images - standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format. We can inspect the file, display internal text, and if our analysis detects a supported embedded format (like JFIF for images), viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IPW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CRS, PCG and PARAM files.

The IPW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IPW converter.
