About IOP files
The .IOP file is a proprietary compressed data archive used almost exclusively by the 3D multiplayer fighting game Lost Saga, developed by IO Entertainment. These files act as internal containers to store core game assets, including 3D character models, weapon textures, animations, and sound effects. The files are opened and read natively by the game client during gameplay.
Users typically interact with .IOP files when attempting to mod the game, translate text, or extract 3D models for fan projects. However, working with this format presents severe challenges. It is proprietary, completely undocumented by the developers, and heavily encrypted to prevent tampering. Standard archive utilities like 7-Zip or WinRAR cannot open or extract these files, making them essentially locked black boxes for average users.
You cannot cleanly convert an .IOP file into another single file. The objective is usually extraction - pulling the raw data out to target formats like PNG for textures, WAV for audio, or OBJ for 3D models. Because this file format is a closed, proprietary game container, it is notoriously difficult to open or convert. Standard online converters fail to process it entirely because they lack the specific decryption keys or header definitions used by the game engine.
Often only the original software or specialized community-built extraction scripts (such as those used with QuickBMS) can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IOP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The IOP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IOP converter.
