Convert IGI to another file type
To convert IGI images to another format, you need Indigo Renderer or other Raster Image software.
Convert a file to IGI
To convert other file formats to the "HDR Render Output" file type, you need software like Indigo Renderer or a similar tool.
About IGI files
The .IGI file is an Indigo Image File created by Indigo Renderer, a photorealistic, physically based rendering engine developed by Glare Technologies. This format stores uncompressed, high dynamic range (HDR) floating-point image data generated during the 3D rendering process. It is primarily used to save the exact mathematical state of a render, allowing 3D artists to pause and resume rendering, or apply tone mapping and light layer adjustments after the render finishes.
A major disadvantage of the .IGI format is its strictly proprietary nature. Because it stores raw render calculations and multiple light layers, files easily exceed hundreds of megabytes. You cannot open an .IGI file in standard image viewers, web browsers, or general photo editing software. Without an active installation of Indigo Renderer, accessing or sharing the image data is impossible.
To share your rendered images with clients or import them into post-production pipelines, you must convert the .IGI file. The best target format is EXR to preserve the high dynamic range and floating-point data without loss. For standard web viewing or presentations, you should convert to PNG or JPG, though this will permanently compress the file into an 8-bit color space and discard the HDR lighting information.
Because .IGI is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters routinely fail to process it. Only the original software can fully interpret its multi-layered HDR data. We will inspect the file's internal structure and extract any readable metadata. If our analysis detects a supported embedded preview, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IGI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IGI file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Indigo Renderer or similar software from the "HDR Render Image Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to IGI, try Indigo Renderer or another comparable tool in the "HDR Render Image Storage" category.
The IGI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IGI converter.
