About IFN files

The .ifn extension primarily identifies the Igor Pro Notebook file, a format associated with WaveMetrics Igor Pro. These files serve as formatted notebooks containing a mix of scientific data, executed code functions, and annotated text used in high-level graphical analysis.

The main problem users face is the strict proprietary nature of the format; without a licensed copy of Igor Pro (which is specialized scientific software), the data and graphs locked inside an .IFN file are inaccessible to standard office tools like Excel or Word. A secondary, less common use for this extension is as a game engine executable module for titles by iWin Inc, which acts as a binary dependency that should not be manually altered.

For scientific users, the solution is converting these notebooks into universally accessible formats. For archiving research, convert .IFN to PDF/A to preserve the visual layout of graphs and code. For raw data extraction, converting to CSV or TXT allows the underlying numerical data to be imported into spreadsheet software. Note that game-related .IFN files generally cannot be converted and should be left alone to ensure game stability.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IFN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PXP, IBW and ITX files.
