The .IDI file extension serves two distinct, incompatible purposes, creating significant confusion for users. Most frequently, it represents Bank Indonesia clearing data used within the SKNBI (Sistem Kliring Nasional Bank Indonesia) system. While these files contain critical financial transaction text, they are often distributed as renamed ZIP archives to ensure integrity during transfer. The main issue is that standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel cannot open them directly, appearing as unrecognizable binary data to the user. To view or audit this data, the file must be treated as an archive - renaming the extension to ZIP allows you to extract the underlying text files for conversion to CSV or XLSX.
Alternatively, an .IDI file may be a proprietary game asset from the Gran Turismo racing simulator series developed by Polyphony Digital, specifically containing data regarding car parts and physics configurations. Unlike the banking format, these are encrypted binary files designed to be read only by the game engine (e.g., on PlayStation consoles). They cannot be opened by standard text editors or image viewers. For these files, conversion is generally impossible without specific, community-developed modding tools, as they are locked to prevent tampering with game mechanics.
