Extract text from meet event files (HYV)

The .HYV file is a proprietary data format used by HY-TEK Sports Software (now a division of ACTIVE Network). It primarily stores "Meet Event" definitions, entry data, and event parameters for competitive sports like swimming and track and field. Team managers use these files to distribute the list of available events to coaches so they can build their team rosters and submit entries.

The main disadvantage of the .HYV format is its highly restricted, closed ecosystem. You cannot natively open it in a web browser, standard office software, or a basic text editor. It requires a specific, often expensive, software license to properly view the event data. Coaches and parents without the software often struggle to see what events they need to enter, making the file highly frustrating to handle on a standard PC or smartphone.
The best targets for conversion are CSV, XLSX, or TXT. Converting to a spreadsheet format allows anyone to view event numbers, stroke descriptions, distances, and qualifying times without buying specialized sports software.
