The .htxt file is a proprietary eBook format developed by Hanvon (Hanwang Technology) specifically for their WISEreader line of e-ink devices. It is predominantly used for Chinese-language digital publications and stores text in a compiled binary structure rather than a human-readable format. Some legacy knowledge systems like WebKNotes also use the .htxt extension for plain text with embedded hyperlinks, but the Hanvon eBook format is by far the most common use case.
Users face significant hurdles when dealing with .htxt files because they are tightly locked into the Hanvon hardware ecosystem. The format frequently incorporates strict DRM (Digital Rights Management) encryption. This means you cannot simply transfer a .htxt file to an Amazon Kindle, Apple iPad, or open it with standard desktop software. It requires specialized Android e-reading apps like Z-Reader or the original Hanvon device firmware.
