About HSH files

The .HSH file extension primarily represents a hash file or internal index used by various software applications to verify data integrity or speed up searches. The most common use is as a Drive Image Hash File created by backup software like R-Tools R-Drive Image or O&O DiskImage. These files store cryptographic hashes of a disk backup, allowing the software to quickly verify if the backup archive is intact or corrupted. Other common uses include Print Shop Graphic Hash Files from Brøderbund, thumbnail caches for FastStone Image Viewer, WhatsApp Messenger chat hash files, and old Windows Catalog Search Index Files from Microsoft. The main disadvantage of the .HSH format is that it is strictly an internal, proprietary data format. It does not contain human-readable documents, images, or media.
