About HSH files

The .HSH file extension is primarily a Disk Image Hash file, functioning as a digital fingerprint for large backups created by software like R-Drive Image and O&O DiskImage. Unlike the actual disk image (which might be a 50GB RDR or OMG file), the .HSH file is a tiny text or binary file containing cryptographic checksums. Its sole purpose is verification: it allows the software to confirm that your backup has not been corrupted or tampered with since creation.

Users commonly encounter problems when they try to "open" a .HSH file expecting to see their backed-up photos or documents. This is impossible because the file does not contain user data - it only contains the mathematical signature of that data. Another common variant is the Windows Catalog Search Index file (catalog.hsh), a system file locked by the OS in the System32 folder. For the backup variant, the only practical "conversion" is opening it in a text editor like Notepad++ to view the hash string, or converting it to a standard checksum format like MD5 or SHA1 for use with other verification tools.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HSH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted OMG, VMB and BTS files.
