Extract text from Woodworking CNC programs (HOP)
To convert HOP CNC programs to another format, you need HOPS CAD/CAM or other Cad software.
To convert other file formats to the "CNC Toolpath File" file type, you need software like HOPS CAD/CAM or a similar tool.
A .hop file is primarily a Woodworking CNC (Computer Numerical Control) program file created by HOPS CAD/CAM software, used to control HOLZ-HER and other industrial routing machines. In other contexts, it can be a game asset archive for Heavy Iron Studios, a project database for Hopper Disassembler, or a HoloPlay holographic media file from Looking Glass Factory.
These formats share a common disadvantage: they are highly proprietary. CNC .hop files require expensive, specialized industrial software to open, modify, or even view. They are not supported by standard CAD tools or web browsers. Game asset archives and database files are completely useless outside of their specific engines, locking away the data inside.
When working with CNC .hop files, the best conversion targets are standard vector formats like DXF or DWG. This allows the geometry to be viewed in AutoCAD or standard vector editors, though machine-specific instructions like spindle speeds and toolpaths will be permanently lost. HoloPlay files, conversely, are simply renamed ZIP files and can be extracted to access the underlying MP4 or PNG media.
Because CNC and game .hop files are closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
