About HEADER files

The .header file extension is most technically significant when associated with P-CAD, a legacy Electronic Design Automation (EDA) suite acquired by Altium. In this context, the file serves as a database header, storing critical metadata, layer configurations, and netlist definitions for PCB layouts. The primary disadvantage of this format is its obsolescence; Altium discontinued P-CAD in 2006, leaving these files locked in a proprietary ecosystem that modern tools often struggle to import cleanly. Users frequently encounter these files in old engineering archives and find they cannot be opened without a specific, hard-to-find version of P-CAD 200X.
