About GSN files

A .gsn file is predominantly a Cyberboard Game Scenario file. Cyberboard is a specialized play-by-email (PBEM) board game application. Players use these files to define the starting positions of counters, boards, and other game state information for a specific scenario. Alternatively, some .gsn files function as proprietary game character texture or sprite files used by Tencent QQ games and certain mods for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

You can open scenario files using the official Cyberboard desktop software. For texture files, specialized modding tools or unpackers designed for specific game engines are usually required.

Users often want to convert .gsn files to extract board layouts, game text, or character sprites. However, the format is highly restrictive and proprietary. The scenario data only makes sense within the Cyberboard engine, and game textures are packed in engine-specific proprietary formats that standard image viewers cannot read. You cannot simply open a .gsn file in a standard web browser or generic graphics editor.

If you are trying to extract visual data, the ideal target formats are PNG or JPG for textures, or TXT / XML for scenario data. Be aware that converting a scenario file to text will result in the total loss of all interactive game state functionality.

Because this is a closed, proprietary game data format, standard online converters consistently fail to process it. Often, only the original game engines or dedicated modding software can perfectly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view embedded text, and analyze the internal hex structure. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GSN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted C4S and SCE2 files.
