About GS2 files
The .gs2 file extension is a uniquely fragmented format serving three distinct industries: energy infrastructure, typography, and music. In the majority of cases (51%), a .gs2 file is an Ediel Nordic time-series data container. These are structured text files used by Scandinavian operators like Statnett to exchange hourly electricity metering and settlement data. They are strictly strictly formatted for B2B EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) systems and are not compatible with standard spreadsheet software without parsing.
However, hobbyists and designers encounter .gs2 files as Glyphr Studio Project files. In this context, the file is simply a renamed JSON document containing vector paths, kerning, and metadata for a font in progress. Users often need to convert these to OTF or TTF for actual installation. Lastly, the extension is used by Guitar SongBook software as a GZIP-compressed container for lyrics and chord charts. Because of this overlap, attempting to open a .gs2 file in the wrong application (e.g., opening an energy file in a font editor) will result in immediate errors.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GS2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GS2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GS2 converter.
