Created exclusively for iOS and Android environments, this format poses an immediate problem when transferred to a desktop computer. Users frequently export a .gs-bck file to Google Drive or Dropbox to secure their files, but Windows and macOS fail to recognize the extension. The main disadvantage is its proprietary naming convention, which prevents standard operating systems from natively browsing the contents without the original mobile app.
Fortunately, the file is structurally a standard ZIP archive container. The best conversion targets are extraction to standard ZIP, which yields the underlying PDF documents and JPG images stored inside, alongside JSON metadata files. Standard online converters usually reject the file because they do not recognize the specific extension.
