Convert GRT to another file type
To convert your GRT file to another format, you need SketchUp or other Settings software.
Convert a file to GRT
To convert other file formats to the "Report Template" file type, you need software like SketchUp or a similar tool.
About GRT files
A .GRT file is typically a template used to automate the creation of reports or graphs, rather than a final document you can simply double-click to view. The most common modern variety is the Generate Report Template from SketchUp. These files are internally formatted as JSON and contain the configuration settings (such as "LenX," "Entity Name," or "Price") used to extract data from a 3D model into a spreadsheet. Users often need to convert these to JSON or TXT to edit the raw code or view the schema without opening SketchUp.
Another frequent variation is the Grapher Template from Golden Software. These serve as blueprints for scientific graphs, storing layout styles, axes, and formatting but usually containing only placeholder data. Practical friction arises because you cannot "view" the graph without loading the file into Grapher and linking it to a new dataset. A legacy use case involves Graphics Presentation files (associated with the obsolete "Grt Player"), which are proprietary multimedia formats that modern video players cannot open.
Best Conversion Targets:
For SketchUp Editing: Convert to JSON (often just by renaming) or TXT to modify the report parameters in a text editor.
For Data Extraction: Use SketchUp to run the .GRT against a model and export the actual results as CSV or XLSX.
For Grapher: Open in Grapher and export the final plot to PDF or PNG after populating it with data.
For Legacy/Unknown: If the file header suggests PDF structure, try renaming to PDF.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GRT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GRT file to DWT, NRT, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use SketchUp or similar software from the "Report Generation Template" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GRT, try SketchUp or another comparable tool in the "Report Generation Template" category.
The GRT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GRT converter.
