Convert GRT to another file type
To convert GRT templates to another format, you need Trimble SketchUp or other Data software.
Convert a file to GRT
To convert other file formats to the "Report Template File" file type, you need software like Trimble SketchUp or a similar tool.
About GRT files
A .grt file is an ambiguous, multi-purpose file extension primarily used for Graphics Presentation files (legacy video formats), Generated Reports, or Report Templates. Because it lacks a single standardized format, the data structure entirely depends on the source application. It is commonly associated with legacy Grt Player / Editor tools for presentations, Trimble SketchUp as a JSON-based Generate Report template, and Golden Software Grapher as a graphing template. Occasionally, a .grt file is simply a generated report encoded as a standard Adobe PDF file.
The primary disadvantage of the .grt format is its severe ambiguity. The extension gives no clear indication of whether the file contains proprietary video data, plain text, or document layouts. This locks your data inside expensive or orphaned software ecosystems. A SketchUp template requires a costly subscription to utilize, while legacy Grt Player files are entirely unsupported by modern web browsers or media players. This makes sharing and collaborating extremely frustrating for standard users.
To make this data accessible, conversion or structural identification is necessary. If the file is a SketchUp template, it should be read as standard JSON text. If it is a generated report, it is best converted or renamed to a PDF document. For legacy video presentations, converting to universally supported formats like MP4 or MKV prevents complete data loss.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard converters rely purely on the file extension and fail when confronted with multiple underlying structures. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format on convert.guru, view its internal structure, and convert it when possible. We will inspect the file to show its raw text or binary headers. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format like PDF or JSON, viewing or conversion is absolutely possible without buying the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GRT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GRT file to DWT, NRT, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use Trimble SketchUp or similar software from the "Templates and Generated Reports" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GRT, try Trimble SketchUp or another comparable tool in the "Templates and Generated Reports" category.
The GRT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GRT converter.
