About GPRX files
A .GPRX file is a Geoxa Project File developed by Creative GIS Solutions. It is used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to save the layout of a mapped region. Rather than storing actual map graphics, this file contains XML-formatted text that organizes layers, legends, and Points of Interest (POI).
The primary software used to open these files was Geoxa Viewer or Geoxa Editor. However, this software has been largely abandoned since 2008. The main disadvantage of the .GPRX format is that it is strictly a pointer file. It does not hold raster or vector data itself; instead, it references external spatial files like ESRI Shapefiles (SHP), MrSID files (SID), or GeoTIFFs (TIF). If you move the .GPRX file without the linked data files, the map will break.
Converting a standalone .GPRX file directly into a visual map format like PDF or JPG is impossible without the source data. Because it relies on outdated software, modern GIS platforms like QGIS do not natively import it. The best realistic conversion target is extracting the underlying data to XML or TXT to recover coordinates, layer names, and file paths.
This format is frustrating to handle because the original software is difficult to run on modern operating systems. We strip away the proprietary confusion, allowing you to instantly view the internal XML structure, extract the raw text data, and identify exactly which external map layers are missing from your project.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GPRX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GPRX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GPRX converter.
