About GOLD files

A .GOLD file is most frequently a "Gold Standard" key file used in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) evaluations, specifically within SemEval shared tasks. These files contain the correct answers (ground truth) used to score algorithm performance against test datasets.

Because they are often generated by custom evaluation scripts, they lack a standard file header or associated program, leaving your operating system unable to open them. While technically plain text, the data inside is often formatted in tab-separated values (TSV), XML, or custom pipe-delimited structures that are difficult to read without formatting.

For researchers and developers, the most practical workflow is converting these files to TXT for quick inspection, or structured formats like CSV or JSON to load them into data analysis tools like Microsoft Excel or Pandas.

*Note: In scientific contexts, a .gold file may also relate to CCDC GOLD molecular docking software. These are specialized configuration or grid files and should generally be kept in their original format for scientific processing.*

Convert.Guru analyzes your GOLD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TES, ARFF, NAMES and RM files.

The GOLD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GOLD converter.
