Convert GOLD to another file type
To convert GOLD annotation files to another format, you need Weka or other Data software.
Convert a file to GOLD
To convert other file formats to the "Machine Learning Dataset" file type, you need software like Weka or a similar tool.
About GOLD files
The .GOLD file extension is primarily used for Gold Standard Annotation datasets in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning evaluation, such as the SemEval shared tasks. These files contain "ground truth" labels, text summaries, or affective text data used to benchmark AI models. A secondary, highly specific use is as a molecular docking grid file for the CCDC GOLD (Genetic Optimization for Ligand Docking) computational chemistry software. Occasionally, they are linked to Weka machine learning pipelines or the Goldfire Summary Assistant.
Because "gold standard" datasets are created independently by different academic groups, there is no universal structure for a .GOLD file. They are usually plain text files formatted as custom XML, TSV (Tab-Separated Values), or bespoke tag-based layouts. The main disadvantage is this severe lack of standardization. A dataset from a 2018 SemEval task will have a completely different internal schema than one from 2023, requiring researchers to write custom Python scripts just to parse the files into a usable format.
To analyze the data in modern tools like Pandas, Microsoft Excel, or R, users need to convert the raw .GOLD file into a standard CSV, JSON, or TXT format. If the file is a CCDC molecular docking file, it uses a closed, proprietary structure that is virtually useless outside of the CCDC software ecosystem. Standard online converters routinely fail to process .GOLD files because they do not recognize the academic schemas or proprietary binary structures inside.
Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, often only the original academic script or proprietary software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded text format, viewing or conversion to common data formats may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GOLD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GOLD file to RM, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use Weka or similar software from the "Ground Truth Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GOLD, try Weka or another comparable tool in the "Ground Truth Data Storage" category.
The GOLD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GOLD converter.
