Convert GHX to another file type
To convert GHX definitions to another format, you need Rhinoceros 3D or other Cad software.
Convert a file to GHX
To convert other file formats to the "Visual Programming Script" file type, you need software like Rhinoceros 3D or a similar tool.
About GHX files
The .GHX file extension is a Grasshopper XML Definition used by Rhinoceros 3D. It stores visual programming algorithms that generate parametric 3D geometry. Unlike the binary GH format, .GHX saves data in plain text XML format. This makes it excellent for version control systems like Git, or manual debugging.
You must use Rhinoceros 3D with its built-in Grasshopper environment to properly open and execute these files.
The .GHX format is highly specialized and restrictive. It requires an expensive commercial license to open. Without the software, the file is simply a massive string of XML code. It is also heavily dependent on third-party Grasshopper plugins like Kangaroo or Weaverbird. If the original author used plugins you do not have, the file will open with broken nodes. Furthermore, standard online 3D converters cannot read .GHX because it contains logic, math, and node coordinates, not actual 3D mesh or NURBS data.
If you need to share the generated geometry, you must execute the script in Rhino, "bake" the output, and export it as 3DM, OBJ, or STL. If you only need the script structure, converting to GH heavily reduces file size.
Because this is a proprietary, logic-based file, standard converters fail to process it. If our analysis detects readable node data, viewing or text extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GHX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GHX file to , you can use Rhinoceros 3D or similar software from the "Algorithmic 3D Modeling" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert files to GHX, try Rhinoceros 3D or another comparable tool in the "Algorithmic 3D Modeling" category.
The GHX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GHX converter.
