Convert a file to GH

To convert other file formats to the "Visual Programming Script" file type, you need software like Rhinoceros 3D or a similar tool.

About GH files

A .GH file is a proprietary Grasshopper Binary Definition used by Grasshopper 3D, a visual programming language integrated within Rhinoceros 3D. These files store node-based algorithms used to generate complex parametric 3D models. The .GH format is a closed, proprietary binary file. It is highly disadvantageous for sharing because it requires a costly Rhinoceros 3D license to open and cannot be read by web browsers or standard text editors. Furthermore, executing the script often requires specific third-party plugins; missing plugins will break the entire file. Standard online converters fail to process .GH files because they contain logic and instructions, not explicit 3D geometry. To convert the final model to standard CAD formats like OBJ, STEP, or STL, you must bake the geometry within the software. You can also save the script as a GHX (XML) file for text readability. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GH Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GH converter.
