About GAT files

.GAT files typically serve two extremely distinct purposes: storing 3D map altitude and collision data for the MMORPG Ragnarok Online, or acting as firewall configuration backups for Check Point and WatchGuard security appliances. A minor legacy subset belongs to the obsolete Gator eWallet password manager.

Game data files are utilized by the official game client or community map editors like BrowEdit. Firewall backups are generated and managed via WatchGuard System Manager or Check Point enterprise tools.

Users often need to convert these files to edit custom game server terrains or inspect raw enterprise firewall configurations. The primary disadvantage of the .GAT format is its proprietary, fragmented nature. Game data is entirely unreadable outside its specific 3D engine, and firewall backups require specialized hardware management interfaces to parse natively. Standard online converters fail to process .GAT files because they lack the specific reverse-engineering logic for obscure game engines or enterprise network hardware.

For firewall backups, the best conversion target is a standard archive; many are actually renamed ZIP files containing readable XML configurations. For game files, specialized community tools target 3D meshes like OBJ, though complex collision attributes are frequently lost during export.

This file format is highly difficult to open or convert due to its closed, proprietary ecosystem. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Fortunately, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as a compressed firewall archive - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GAT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BN, RFS and RRF files.

The GAT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GAT converter.
