About FZV files

An .FZV file is a Casio FZ-1 Voice Dump, a proprietary data format used to store synthesized instrument sounds for vintage Casio FZ-series hardware samplers (FZ-1, FZ-10M, FZ-20M). Originally developed to work with utilities like FZDUMP by Jeff McClintock, these files contain 16-bit PCM audio data mixed with hardware-specific playback parameters like key ranges, amplitude envelopes, and loop points.

In the modern era, .FZV files are obsolete and challenging to work with. The format is strictly proprietary and completely unsupported by standard media players, web browsers, or mainstream DAW software. Users are typically forced to track down specialized software like Awave Studio just to access the raw data. The primary disadvantage of the format is that it traps your audio inside an archaic, 1980s hardware ecosystem.

To use these vintage samples in modern music production, you must convert the .FZV file to standard audio formats like WAV, FLAC, or MP3. Extracting to a WAV file preserves the raw PCM audio, though you should expect hardware-specific settings (like custom synth envelopes) to be lost during the process.

Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard online converters often fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying embedded audio format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FZV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted G1R, FZB and FZF files.
