About FTR files
The .FTR file extension is most commonly used as a Feather Data Frame file. It is a fast, lightweight, binary columnar data format built on the Apache Arrow project. Data analysts use it to quickly read and write large datasets between Python and R without serialization overhead. The main disadvantage of the .FTR format is its lack of universal accessibility. It is a binary file, meaning it is not human-readable. It is not supported by standard web browsers, text editors, or common spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. Opening the file usually requires setting up a programming environment, installing dependencies like Pandas, and writing code. Other systems also use the .FTR extension for closed, proprietary formats. These include truck navigation information files in NNG iGO Navigation, flight track logs in Naviter SeeYou, and proprietary map feature data for ALK Technologies PC*MILER. Standard online converters frequently fail to process these variants because the internal data structures are completely undocumented and locked to the original software. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If you need to share a Feather data frame with non-technical users, you must convert it. The best target formats are CSV for universal compatibility or .PARQUET for efficient data storage. Converting to CSV will increase the file size and strip strict data type definitions. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FTR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FTR file to MP3, MP4, SYS, DLL, EXE, DRV, VXD, 386, COM, BAT, CMD or SCR, you can use Pandas or similar software from the "Columnar Data Frame Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MSI, EXE, REG, MST, LNK, CAB, CAT, DRV, INF, SYS, MSU or DLL files to FTR, try Pandas or another comparable tool in the "Columnar Data Frame Storage" category.
The FTR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FTR converter.
