About FTH files
The .FTH file extension represents a proprietary theme or layout configuration used primarily by two distinct software applications: foobar2000 (a highly customizable audio player for Windows) and Claris FileMaker (a professional relational database platform). In both environments, this file acts as a stylistic blueprint. It stores user interface parameters, color palettes, coordinate layouts, and typography settings, rather than storing the actual media audio tracks or database records themselves.
The significant disadvantage of the .FTH format is its strictly proprietary, closed ecosystem. These files are designed exclusively for the proprietary rendering engines of their respective host applications. Consequently, they are entirely useless outside of that specific environment. You cannot natively preview an .FTH file in web browsers, and standard operating system file explorers will not display their contents. Furthermore, sharing these themes often requires the recipient to have the exact same software version and third-party UI plugins installed to prevent catastrophic layout breaks.
Converting .FTH files directly to standard web formats like CSS or HTML is rarely a seamless process because the underlying UI frameworks do not map logically to standard web markup. Instead, users typically seek to extract the embedded graphical assets or XML configuration data into accessible formats like ZIP, XML, PNG, or TXT to reverse-engineer the design.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it utilizes undocumented binary structures or bespoke packaging methods. Standard online converters routinely fail to process it because they lack the specific parsing logic for these niche software tools. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our system will inspect the internal headers. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as a compressed container or plain text XML - viewing or extracting the internal contents may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FTH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The FTH Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FTH converter.
