About FTB files

An .FTB file is the proprietary project database used by MyHeritage Family Tree Builder, a popular desktop genealogy application. Internally, this file is often an SQL-based database that stores the complete structure of a family tree, including individuals, relationships, dates, citations, and links to media files. While efficient for the software, the .FTB format is a classic "walled garden." It cannot be opened by web browsers, text editors, or competing genealogy platforms like Ancestry or Gramps. Users often run into immediate friction when trying to share their research with relatives who do not have the software installed, or when migrating data to a cloud service. Because the file is a binary database, it is not human-readable. To make the data useful outside of the MyHeritage ecosystem, the standard workflow is to convert the .FTB file into a GED (GEDCOM) file, which is the universal standard for genealogy data exchange. For visual sharing or archiving, converting to PDF charts or CSV spreadsheets is recommended.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FTB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GEDCOM, FB2, GED, FDB, 2 and PMA files.
