About FSF files

The .FSF file extension is notorious for causing confusion because it is used by several completely unrelated, proprietary systems. Its most common use is as a quarantined file container created by F-Secure DeepGuard. When the antivirus software detects malware, it neutralizes the threat by locking it inside an encrypted .FSF file. Alternatively, it serves as a Floorplan Specification file for Blue Yonder Space Planning (formerly JDA), a legacy font format from FontShop, an fMRI analysis setup file in the FSL FEAT research tool, or a style resource for the Embarcadero FireMonkey framework.

Working with .FSF files is highly restrictive and frustrating. If the file is a quarantine container, it is intentionally encrypted to protect your system. Attempting to force it open is dangerous. Space Planning floorplans are similarly problematic; they are built on a proprietary Microsoft Compound structure that requires an expensive enterprise subscription to read. They are completely unsupported by standard web browsers or regular CAD tools.

When conversion is possible, it is strictly dependent on the file's true origin. FontShop files are best converted to standard TTF or OTF formats. Floorplans should ideally be converted to DXF or PDF, but this usually requires the original user to export the file for you.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because it lacks a single unified standard. Standard online converters fail to process it because they cannot guess which variant you uploaded. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extraction may still be achieved.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FSF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ABF, PF2 and FT files.

The FSF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FSF converter.
