About FRK files

The .FRK file extension is most commonly a proprietary firmware update for FrSky radio control receivers. These files contain compiled operating system and telemetry protocol instructions that must be flashed to the hardware, often using OpenTX Companion. A secondary, much older use is the legacy Macintosh Resource Fork, which Apple used to store metadata and icon information separately from main file data.

Users often attempt to convert .FRK files because they lack the specific RC software required to read them, or because their transmitter requires a BIN format instead. The main disadvantage of the .FRK format is that it is a closed, proprietary binary blob. It is heavily tied to the specific hardware architecture of FrSky receivers. It cannot be opened natively by web browsers, and reading it in a standard text editor only produces unusable gibberish.

Converting an .FRK file to standard documents like PDF or TXT is generally a mistake that destroys the machine code. If you need a different firmware format, you must download the correct version directly from the manufacturer. Standard online converters fail to process these files because they are designed for documents and images, not raw microchip data.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to manipulate because only original flashing tools can properly read or apply the data. However, convert.guru acts as a realistic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its hexadecimal headers, and inspect internal content strings. If our analysis detects any supported embedded text or alternative formats, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FRK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted 1ST, SAVER and HCOM files.

The FRK Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FRK converter.
