About FPA files

The .FPA file extension is primarily associated with iGO Navigation software developed by NNG. These files function as Point Addressing or Proximity Alert databases, specifically containing coordinate data for speed cameras, red light cameras, and school zones. While crucial for driver safety, the format is proprietary and binary, meaning you cannot simply open it in a text editor to verify the data or merge it with other lists.

Users often encounter friction when trying to update their GPS units; simply dragging a new .FPA file into the content/speedcam folder may not work if the device license does not support that specific module. Furthermore, because the file is opaque, users cannot easily inspect it to remove false positives or add new hazard points.

*Note: Less frequently, this extension refers to a Finale Performance Assessment file by MakeMusic, used to grade musical performances, or an encrypted order file for Front Panel Express enclosures.*
