About FOP files
A .fop file is most frequently a Student Information System (SIS) report generated by Infinite Campus. In this scenario, the file is often a standard PDF or HTML document that was saved with a confusing extension due to a browser or server misconfiguration (specifically involving the Apache FOP engine used in the background). Users typically encounter this when downloading transcripts, schedules, or report cards, finding themselves unable to open the file with standard PDF readers.
Technically, the extension stands for Formatting Objects Processor. Outside of school reports, a .fop file may be a raw XSL-FO (XML-based) layout file used by developers to define page structures before rendering them into PDFs. A minority of these files (approx 1%) are InfoZoom Protected Data files, which are locked datasets created by humanIT.
For most users, the goal is simply to view the hidden document. Converting to PDF is the best option for printing and archiving school records. If the content is web-based, converting to HTML ensures text remains readable in browsers. For developers working with XSL-FO source files, converting to XML allows for code editing, while rendering to PDF allows for layout verification.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FOP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted FO, XSL and KGP files.
The FOP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FOP converter.
