A .FODP file is an OpenDocument Flat XML Presentation. Unlike a standard ODP file, which is a compressed ZIP archive containing multiple XML documents and media assets, a .FODP file stores the entire presentation structure, text, and embedded images as a single, uncompressed XML text file. This format is heavily utilized by developers and technical teams because pure text files are natively trackable in version control systems like Git or easily generated dynamically via automated scripts. You can natively open and edit these files using LibreOffice Impress or Apache OpenOffice.
The primary disadvantage of the .FODP format is severe file size bloat. Because it is a flat text file without binary compression, any embedded raster images (like JPG or PNG) must be converted to Base64 text strings. This process inflates the size of media assets by approximately 33%. Furthermore, .FODP files lack native web browser support and will generally fail to open correctly in Microsoft PowerPoint without specialized conversion steps.
