About FILTER files
The .filter file is a plain text configuration script used exclusively by Action RPGs like Path of Exile and Project Diablo 2. It functions as an item loot filter, running logic to hide low-value dropped items while highlighting valuable ones with custom colors, map icons, and alert sounds. These files are processed directly by the game clients developed by Grinding Gear Games and community modders. The primary disadvantage of the .filter format is its strict, proprietary syntax. A single missing quotation mark or incorrect item class name will break the entire script, forcing the game to revert to default settings. Furthermore, advanced filters often exceed thousands of lines, making raw text editing tedious and prone to formatting errors. They are also purely local files and lack native cloud-sync support. For easier editing and universal compatibility, convert your .filter to TXT. If you are migrating drop logic into a spreadsheet or building a custom filter tool, convert to CSV or JSON to structure the raw text blocks into manageable data arrays.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FILTER file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The FILTER Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FILTER converter.
