About FHC files

The .fhc extension is a dual-use format shared by two distinct industries: fire protection engineering and genealogy.

Most commonly, a .fhc file is a Fire Hydraulic Calculation project created by Canute FHC. This file acts as a proprietary database storing the complete hydraulic model of a fire sprinkler system, including pipe networks, node data, pump curves, and source pressures.

The Problem: Because .fhc files are specialized engineering datasets, they are binary or structured text files that cannot be opened by standard text editors, CAD software (like AutoCAD), or web browsers. They are strictly "source" files meant for the Canute environment. You cannot simply "convert" them online without the underlying calculation engine to interpret the physics data.

The Solution:

Less frequently, a .fhc file represents a Family Historian Chart, a saved diagram layout from Family Historian by Calico Pie.

The Problem: This file saves the visual layout of a family tree (colors, box positions, styles), not the genealogical data itself. Relatives without the software cannot view these files.

The Solution:

Convert.Guru analyzes your FHC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FH4, FH6 and FH files.

FAQ

If you want to convert FHC file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Canute FHC or similar software from the "Fire Sprinkler Hydraulic Calculation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to FHC, try Canute FHC or another comparable tool in the "Fire Sprinkler Hydraulic Calculation" category.

The FHC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FHC converter.
