About FDT2 files

The .FDT2 file extension is almost exclusively associated with proprietary biometric backup data generated by ZKTeco time attendance and access control devices. These files serve as a data dump, containing critical employee records, fingerprint templates, and clock-in/clock-out timestamps exported from hardware terminals like the ZKTeco K40 or UA300.

A common frustration with .FDT2 files is their proprietary structure; they are not standard text files and cannot be opened by double-clicking or using generic database viewers like Microsoft Access. Users often encounter these files when exporting data via USB to transfer it to a computer, only to find that modern payroll software cannot read them directly. This format effectively locks your attendance data inside the manufacturer's ecosystem, requiring specific, often legacy management software (such as ZKTime or BioTime) just to view simple logs.

To bypass these restrictions and process payroll efficiently, the best workflow is to convert .FDT2 files to XLSX or CSV formats. This makes the attendance logs immediately editable in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. For long-term compliance archiving without the risk of software obsolescence, converting the raw logs to PDF/A is recommended.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FDT2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FDT and PGMX files.
