To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Application Data" file type, you need software like Minecraft or a similar tool.
About FDAT files
The .FDAT file format is primarily used as a Minecraft player data file or as a satellite receiver firmware index for ALI Corp STB chipsets. Secondary uses include cached Facebook data files and Aforism files. These files store raw machine instructions or specific application state data rather than human-readable documents.
In the gaming context, Minecraft generates Java-based .FDAT files to store player inventories, spatial coordinates, and health stats on local or server environments. For hardware, ALI Corp satellite receivers use these files to map and update the internal logic of the set-top box.
Users often encounter immense difficulty with .FDAT files because they are highly proprietary, undocumented binary formats. Trying to open a Minecraft player file in a text editor yields illegible characters. Modifying firmware variants manually will corrupt the hardware. Standard online converters completely fail to process these files because they expect standard documents or media, not raw Java arrays or chipset instructions.
If you must extract data, Minecraft .FDAT files are occasionally converted to DAT or JSON formats using external modding tools like NBTExplorer to tweak game stats. Firmware .FDAT files have no valid conversion targets and should remain in their original state to prevent hardware failure.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, proprietary format heavily tied to specific hardware or game engine versions. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view its internal structure, and extract hidden text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FDAT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FDAT file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use Minecraft or similar software from the "Game Data or Firmware Index" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to FDAT, try Minecraft or another comparable tool in the "Game Data or Firmware Index" category.
The FDAT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FDAT converter.
