Convert FAL to another file type
To convert your FAL file to another format, you need Covadis or other GIS software.
Convert a file to FAL
To convert other file formats to the "Topography Data & Device Plugin" file type, you need software like Covadis or a similar tool.
About FAL files
The .fal extension is shared by two distinct specialized tools: the Field Attribute Library for Geomedia Covadis and application plugins for the Flipper Zero.
For surveyors and civil engineers, the Covadis .FAL file acts as a translation layer between field data (from total stations) and the AutoCAD environment. It dictates how raw field codes (e.g., "TREE") are automatically drawn as symbols or lines. The practical constraint is that these files are often deeply nested within the Covadis installation and editing them requires the full software suite, which can be expensive and cumbersome for simple code audits. Users often need to convert these libraries to CSV or XLSX to manage feature codes in Microsoft Excel or share them with field crews who don't have CAD access.
Alternatively, in the hardware hacking community, a .FAL file represents a Flipper Application Library (or Plugin). These are ELF binaries executed by the Flipper Zero device. Unlike the text-based Covadis file, these are compiled machine code. A common point of friction is version mismatch - a .FAL compiled for one firmware version may crash on another. These files cannot be "converted" to readable text like documents; they are meant to be loaded directly onto the device's SD card or analyzed with a hex editor for debugging.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FAL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FAL file to JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR, PSD or PSB, you can use Covadis or similar software from the "Surveying Feature Library & Plugin" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to FAL, try Covadis or another comparable tool in the "Surveying Feature Library & Plugin" category.
The FAL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FAL converter.
