About EVY files
The Problem: You have likely encountered an .EVY file while digging through old archives or legacy backups from the mid-1990s. This file is a WordPerfect Envoy document. Much like Adobe's PDF, Envoy was designed to be a "portable document" - meaning it captured fonts, graphics, and page layouts so they could be viewed on any computer without the original authoring software. However, while PDF became the global standard, Envoy (developed by Tumbleweed and licensed to Novell and Corel) became obsolete. Modern web browsers, mobile devices, and standard PDF readers (like Adobe Acrobat) cannot open these files. Attempting to view them often results in "Unknown File Format" errors.
The Solution: Because .EVY is a page-layout format, the only practical way to view the content is to convert it to PDF. This preserves the visual integrity of the original document - keeping text, images, and formatting exactly where they were on the page. For users needing to edit the text, converting to DOCX or RTF is possible, though you may lose some complex layout fidelity.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EVY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EVY file to TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN, LOG or NFO, you can use WordPerfect Office or similar software from the "Portable Electronic Document" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to EVY, try WordPerfect Office or another comparable tool in the "Portable Electronic Document" category.
The EVY Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EVY converter.
