About ETA files
The .ETA file primarily functions as a lightweight, embedded HTML template file used by the Eta templating engine. A secondary, much rarer use case is as a legacy Google Earth Placemark File developed by Google. For web development, programmers use text editors like Visual Studio Code to write .ETA files and execute them within a Node.js environment. For placemarks, Google Earth processes the geospatial coordinates. The .ETA template format is strictly a backend developer asset requiring a JavaScript runtime to render into HTML. It is completely useless to end users who just want to view a standard webpage. Its syntax combines HTML with embedded JavaScript tags, making it unreadable for standard web browsers. To make an .ETA file accessible to the public, developers must compile it with data to standard HTML. If you possess the rare Google Earth placemark variant, converting it to KML or KMZ is mandatory for sharing geospatial data with other modern GIS software. Because .ETA templates contain raw programming logic rather than static content, standard online converters fail to process them. A converter cannot generate the final webpage without the original server database and data context. Despite these severe limitations, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its source code, and convert it if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ETA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted ETE, JPG, KMZ, KHTMP and KVW files.

The ETA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ETA converter.
