The .EOT file format primarily functions as an Embedded OpenType font. Developed by Microsoft, it was designed as a compact, proprietary font format used exclusively by Internet Explorer to display custom typography on websites. The main disadvantage of the .EOT font format is its complete obsolescence. Because it is a proprietary format, it lacks support in modern web browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
