About ENIGMA1 files
The .enigma1 extension represents two distinct file types with very different conversion needs.
First, it is commonly associated with Protected Application Data created by The Enigma Protector. These files (often used in software distribution or game saves) are encrypted virtual containers designed to prevent reverse engineering or tampering. Because they are securely locked, they cannot be converted to standard formats like DOCX or JPG. They are strictly for use by the original executable or the developer who holds the source project.
Second, in the context of digital television, this file refers to legacy Satellite Receiver Settings (channel lists/bouquets) for Enigma1-based Linux set-top boxes (e.g., older Dreambox 500/7000 series). Users often run into friction here because modern HD/4K receivers run on Enigma2, which uses a different file structure (lamedb). To use an old .enigma1 list on a modern box, you must convert it using a settings editor like DreamboxEdit or Dreamset. This allows you to migrate your favorite channel organization to new hardware without rebuilding lists from scratch.

The ENIGMA1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ENIGMA1 converter.
