About EMI files

.EMI files are highly specialized scientific data containers generated by electron microscopes (SEM/TEM). They store spectrum images and multidimensional data captured using software like TIA (Tecnai Imaging & Analysis) or instruments from EDAX. You typically need proprietary software or specialized open-source tools like ImageJ (with the EMI/SER reader plugin) to view them. The primary disadvantage of an .EMI file is that it is a closed, proprietary format. It requires a paid software license or highly technical software setups to open. Standard image viewers and web browsers cannot read the file. The files are often large and contain complex metadata that standard tools corrupt or ignore. To share your microscope images with colleagues or publish them, you must convert the .EMI file to a standard format. TIFF is the best target format to preserve lossless scientific data. PNG or JPG are suitable for web presentations, while spectrum data is best extracted to CSV. Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the complex multi-dimensional data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded raster format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your EMI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EML, ANBN, PE4 and IM3 files.

FAQ

If you want to convert EMI file to ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW, QCOW2, RAW, VBOX or OVA, you can use TIA or similar software from the "Scientific Electron Microscopy Imaging" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to EMI, try TIA or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Electron Microscopy Imaging" category.

The EMI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EMI converter.
