The .EFP file extension serves multiple specialized roles, making it notoriously difficult to handle. Most commonly (about 57% of the time), it is a Game Visual Effect Data File used by the classic MMORPG Silkroad Online, developed by Joymax. Inside the game client, these files use a proprietary JMXVEFF binary structure to render spells and environmental effects. Another significant use is the Encrypted Form Package for tax management in CCH ProSystem fx Tax and FormTool. Additionally, .EFP files operate as project containers for Glodon construction software (which are actually disguised ZIP archives), statistical data for MathWave EasyFit, and outdated templates for Microsoft Exchange Forms Designer.
The massive disadvantage of the .EFP format is its heavily fragmented and proprietary nature. A tax accountant's .EFP file requires an expensive enterprise software subscription to bypass the internal CAP encryption, while a gamer's .EFP file is completely locked to an old game engine. You cannot natively view these files in web browsers, and standard office software will only display garbled text.
Converting .EFP files directly depends on the source. If it is a Glodon project file, the best conversion target is ZIP, which allows you to extract the underlying XML and construction data. Tax forms can only realistically be converted to PDF from within the original CCH software.
