About EDP files
The .edp file format is highly fragmented, most commonly serving as a terminal emulator session profile for Micro Focus EXTRA! X-treme. It stores connection settings and preferences for accessing mainframe computers. Alternatively, the .edp extension is frequently used for FreeFem++ finite element analysis scripts, LEADTOOLS compressed images, or even legacy Ensoniq sampler disk images.
Because the .edp extension is shared among radically different, specialized systems - from enterprise mainframes to mathematical modeling software - it is heavily proprietary. Opening a session profile outside of its native emulator or running a script without the correct mathematical solver is highly frustrating. These files are unsupported by standard operating systems, and relying on desktop software requires expensive, niche applications.
Converting .edp files is notoriously difficult because standard online converters cannot guess which underlying data structure the file uses. If your file is a mathematical script, you will want to convert it to TXT or CPP. If it is a compressed LEADTOOLS image, the target should be JPG or PNG. Since many of these variations are closed and proprietary, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, our analysis detects supported embedded formats - like JFIF image data or standard text - so you can safely inspect the file's contents without specialized software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EDP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The EDP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EDP converter.
