About EC4 files
The .ec4 file extension designates a proprietary CD/DVD label design created using Epson Print CD. These files store layout data intended for printing text, graphics, and background images directly onto the surface of printable optical discs. An .ec4 file acts as a container for positioning coordinates, text layers, and links to external image assets rather than a flat, standard image.
Historically, this format is exclusively managed by the Epson software suite bundled with their specialized photo inkjet printers. The primary disadvantage of the .ec4 format is its severe vendor lock-in. It is a closed, proprietary file type that requires specific, often legacy, software to open. Users frequently discover that files created on an old computer cannot be opened on a new machine, or they find that moving the file breaks the links to the original background images. It cannot be natively viewed in web browsers, nor can it be imported into standard design tools like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
When trying to salvage or share these designs, the most practical target formats are standard images like JPG or PNG, or a universal document format like PDF. Converting to these standard formats prevents formatting loss and guarantees the label can be viewed and printed without Epson software.
Unfortunately, .ec4 files are notoriously difficult to convert directly because the format is undocumented and closed. Standard online image converters will fail to process it because they lack the proprietary Epson rendering engine. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our system will inspect the file structure and attempt to extract embedded text or thumbnail images, giving you a chance to recover your data even without the original printer software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EC4 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EC4 file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Epson Print CD or similar software from the "CD/DVD Label Layout Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to EC4, try Epson Print CD or another comparable tool in the "CD/DVD Label Layout Storage" category.
The EC4 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EC4 converter.
