About DXA files
A .DXA file is a highly specialized retro game video format primarily used by the ScummVM engine to play cutscenes for classic 1990s point-and-click adventure games like The Feeble Files.
The open-source community created this format as a clever workaround because the original games relied on expensive, proprietary Smacker (SMK) files. DXA simply wraps basic zlib-compressed video frames alongside WAV or Microsoft ADPCM audio tracks.
While this solved an emulation problem in the 2000s, .DXA is practically useless for modern daily use. The files are highly obscure, completely ignored by web browsers, and cannot be imported into professional editing suites like Adobe Premiere Pro. Furthermore, because it relies on outdated zlib compression, the file sizes are unnecessarily bloated compared to modern video codecs.
For universal sharing, web use, or editing, convert your DXA videos to MP4 (H.264). If you are archiving the raw cutscenes without losing pixel data, convert to MKV. Just drag and drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser without installing complicated emulator tools.
