About DWD files
The .DWD file is primarily a DavkaWriter Document, a specialized word processing file created by Davka Corporation. It is heavily used for writing bilingual English and Hebrew text, supporting complex right-to-left (RTL) formatting, vowels (nikkud), and cantillation marks (trop). A secondary rare use of the extension is for DiamondWare Digitized Audio files from vintage games. Native opening requires DavkaWriter on a Windows system. The .DWD format is heavily disadvantaged by its proprietary nature. It is a closed format. You cannot open it natively in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Standard online converters fail to process it because the internal text encoding and RTL rendering rules are not publicly documented. Users who abandon the expensive software often lose access to decades of archived documents. The best target formats for preservation are PDF for visual layout and RTF or DOCX for editable text. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard tools will fail. Even when full format conversion is blocked by proprietary encoding, our tool can inspect the file, extract raw text, and identify internal embedded formats.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DWD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The DWD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DWD converter.
